1959 Austin Healey Sprite Bugeye

1959 Austin Healey Sprite Bugeye

The seller tells us it runs great although it runs a little rich at the moment. This Bugeye is original with a 948cc engine and smooth case transmission. Engine was rebuilt 8 years ago and has less than 20,000 miles on it. When the rebuilt was done the carburetors were rebuilt with 1 1/4 inch ones from the later Sprite and the clutch was replaced . The car has a later Sprite front disc brake conversion. The exhaust was replaced when the engine was done also but it now shows surface rust. All gauges and lights work as they should. The oil pressure is 65 at idle while warm and 70 at speed. The dash was not recovered because the previous owner liked the look with all the rally plates on it. The spare tire is really nice. The tires have most of the tread on them. Top has no material on it just the bows. The pictures of the underside of the hood show where the car was bumped on the nose and the bodyman didn’t do a thorough job when working the metal. This car is a rust free California car and has never been in an accident that caused structural damage. The paint on the car looks good from a short distance but needs to be repainted. The suspension was not rebuilt and should be.Overall the car has a few dents but nothing major. I owned this car 12 years ago sold it and bought it back 5 years ago.
We like that the dash was kept with the rally plates.  This looks to be a driver quality car, a car you can drive with impunity.  One of the first true sports cars to hit these shores.  Find it here on eBay with a minimum bid not yet hit of $8,500 and a BIN of $9,500.
